La Onda (The Vibe): Many consider this area to be the nicest in Palermo and one of the nicer areas in the city overall. Once within the neighborhood and off the main streets, this area becomes a city of its own. Baez Street is home to upscale restaurants and bars. As a result, it’s not uncommon to see some of the local stars and models dining here. Many of the locals start their nights on Baez and eventually move on to the clubs in other neighborhoods around 3 or 4 in morning.

-Baez street (corner of Baez and Arevalo) is home to about 4 blocks of bars, restaurants and cafes

-Polo fields located on the corner of Dorrego and Libertador.
Attractions: Baez Street, at its intersection with Arevalo, is the hot spot in this section of Palermo. There is a 3-block strip of restaurants and bars here that house some of the flashier elements of Palermo and Buenos Aires as a whole. Dotted around this area you’ll find a wide variety of restaurants ranging from Thai cuisine to sushi to upscale parrillas.
During the day, the polo fields and the horse track (Hipódromo) attract a lot of attention (seasonal games and races, check our calendar in the What’s on? section, Polo season is November-December). Polo is a very popular sport here in Argentina and many boast that the Argentine teams and horses are the best in the world.
If you are seeking comfort food, the large grocery store Jumbo can be found in between Dorrego, Bullrich and Cervino. We can confirm that peanut butter, Marmite, Dr. Pepper, cranberry juice, taco shells and many other rare, foreign products have made regular appearances here.
Tucked away near Olleros and Luis Maria Campos is the Soler shopping center. It is definitely a more upscale mall that caters to its neighborhood’s inhabitants, but it makes a great stop when the elements are taking a toll on you. It also houses a two screen theater and is located across the street from the only church that is ordained to perform exorcisms by the Vatican in South America. Next door is part of the Argentine Military grounds. Their facilities dot Las Cañitas and include the military hospital, training grounds, cavalry grounds, administrative housing and more.
On the far north side of the neighborhood, you’ll stumble upon the Palermo Lagos (Palermo Parks). This area is very large and hosts many different sections that stretch all the way up to Belgrano and down to Recoleta. Be sure to check out the Rose Garden (El Rosedal) which is host to a wide variety of award winning roses from around the world. Paddle and row boats are available in many of the lake areas for a reasonable price. If you are feeling adventurous, you can trek Northwest in the park area to one of the few 18 hole golf courses that lie within Capitál.
