Godoy
Paraguay 4905, Palermo Soho
In a city where people are accustomed to eating meat with a cleaver, head to Palermo’s trendy Godoy Restaurant and Bar for a dining experience that touts the “no knives” character of its cuisine. Along with bourgeois ambiance, the sushi and other Asian-inspired small plates offer a variety of flavors, textures and colors that draw very large crowds.
The “No Knives” tour, a new addition to the menu, includes such components as bruschettas, samosas, mini tacos and sushi rolls, served in colorful rows intended for sharing. We especially liked the tacos, one lomo and the other vegetarian, served in large shot-glasses with fresh guacamole at the bottom for dipping. The cous cous + brotes is another solid vegetarian option.
Like at most sushi establishments in Buenos Aires, there was no lack of “Philadelphia” – smothered heavily on the rolls and bruschettas. But I couldn’t complain about the smoked salmon and cream cheese combinations, even if they reminded me more of a New York bagel shop than a fancy Asian fusion restaurant.
The restaurant is a place to go with a group of friends, even if you can’t hear each other. And singles will like the vibe. The huge space became a boliche by midnight. Dress to be seen.

Balthazar
Arribeños 3198, Nuñez
If you haven’t yet found a reason to travel to the quiet, residential Nuñez neighborhood, now you have one: Balthazar. The seven-month old restaurant serves outstanding food in a tasteful, modern environment, replete with black granite bar, sprawling art displays and ornate chandeliers.
The creative menu is tweaked seasonally and offers something for everyone – from international flavors to traditional Argentine asado, all served with an eye for simple yet elegant presentation. Come hungry.
Cheese lovers should share a provoleta appetizer – cheese, grilled, and served in a small pan with toppings. The capresse came topped with olives, pesto and sundried tomatoes, and was impossible not to finish. For a lighter appetizer, the ceviche featured fresh citrus flavors and was served with edible flowers and herbs.
For a traditional grilled entree, choose from a parrilla menu of achuras (organ cuts), beef, pork and poultry. You will feel legit when your meal comes served on a thick wooden slab, with sides of garnish and sauce for dipping.
The pasta selection features ingredients and combinations you’re not used to seeing in Buenos Aires. We devoured the rich pumpkin ravioli with sage and pecorino. I’d love to go back for mushroom risotto with truffle oil.
Wine lovers can choose from an extensive listing chosen by a new sommelier, and the cocktail list was impressive as well. Balthazar is a perfect spot for a slow meal with family, a date or a few close friends. You’ll feel cozy and well served. Terrance seating is also available, and the entire restaurant is outfitted with wifi.
On weekends, Balthazar serves brunch from 9:30 to 4, with options including Omelets, Yogurt and Granola, and French toast.

Club V
Bonpland 1690, Palermo Hollywood
It’s getting hot out there. But don’t worry – we’ve taken it upon ourselves to do the very arduous task of searching for a delicious alcoholic concoction to quench your summertime thirst. And oh did we find it, in the form of a frozen mojito, at Palermo’s new Club V.
It’s a healthy serving of fresh mojito (white rum, sugar, lime juice, water, mint) blended to perfection into smoothie form, chock full of fresh mint leaves and piled high into a martini glass. All of the above is prepared “with love” by the fabulous bartender Tonga. Consider asking for an extra shot of rum if you’re looking for a buzz.
A live DJ sets the mood as you sip cocktails and people-watch Palermo style. This is a good spot to kick off a night on the town. If you need food in your stomach before heading onto the next spot, try a tabla de quesos y fiambres or bruschetta to accompany your drinks. This place isn’t vegetarian friendly though, so herbivores beware.
