River Plate vs Boca Juniors, El Super Clasico November 16th

NOTE: Due to the passing of Nestor Kirchner, all public events were postponed the weekend of October 29-31. All football games were delayed by one week and the Superclasico has been rescheduled for Tuesday, November 16th. We still have tickets and tours! See below…

Ah yes, El SuperClasico is just around the corner now and as you may have guessed it is the one game you do not want to miss. If you happen to be here during your trip to Buenos Aires around November 7th then you should not only get tickets, but choose your side. Here’s a brief breakdown:

River Plate aka Las Gallinas (“The chickens” as dubbed by their rival fans):
Est: 1901
Championships: 38 official tournament victories which include 33 Argentine League titles, 2 Copa Libertadores (1986, 1996), a Supercopa (1997) and an Intercontinental title (1986).
Downside: Have a reputation for having snooty, wealthy fans.
Stadium: “El Monumental”, Capacity of 65,000
Neighborhoods Representin’: Núñez, Palermo, Belgrano, Coghlan, Colegiales

Boca Juniors aka Los Bosteros (“The slimy ones” as dubbed by their rival fans):
Est: 1905
Famous players: Diego Maradona…need we say more?
Championships: 41 official tournament victories at the national and international level which includes 6 Copa Libertadores, 4 Recopa Sudamericana, 3 world club titles (Intercontinental Cup), 2 Copa Sudamericana, 1 Copa Oro, 1 Supercopa Sudamericana, 1 Supercopa Masters and 23 national championships, second to River Plate (33).
Downside: Have a reputation for being low brow and low class fans.
Stadium: “La Bombonera”, Capacity of 56,500
Neighborhoods Representin’: La Boca, Constitucion, San Telmo, Barracas
