The magic of a beautiful outfit lies in rich fabrics, classic shoes, and a fabulous bag. However, a truly wonderful outfit would not be complete without jewelry. A touch of sparkle here, a little silver there, and you’re ready to go.
Fortunately, Buenos Aires offers a plentiful amount of jewelry stores for every taste. Whether you prefer delicate gems or chunky bracelets, this city has it all. Before venturing out into the wild world of BA jewelry, let me share some of my personal favorites.
For the ultimate in modern elegance, head to Manu Lizarralde in Palermo. The variety of precious gems and stones from all over South America is not to be found anywhere else. Although this store provides a wide array of options from bracelets to necklaces, my favorite choices are the rings. Bold yet understated, you can find a ring in almost any stone and color at Manu Lizarralde. For a more alternative look, try out their line designed to look like fossils. With designs reminiscent of ancient times embedded in the stones, these pieces are a non-traditional approach to jewelry that still maintain an air of elegance. Most importantly, every piece at Manu Lizarralde (Gorriti 5078) shines with a sparkle that exhibits the quality of these jewels.
If it’s sparkle you’re after, look no further than Celedonio. While the emphasis at Celedonio is on crystals rather than stones, the necklaces are spectacular. These chains of golden, purple, and silver crystals stand out among the other pieces. Floral themed items are found everywhere in the store, from the beading on the rings to the drop necklaces.
Nevertheless, the crown jewel of Celedonio (Castex 3225) is the clutch draped in crystal beading and golden butterflies. This is truly the essence of fashion as art. However, beware of purchasing too many items in this store, as many have the same look. The key is not to overdo one specific style. Rather, try to combine pieces that complement each other without appearing identical.
Now that we’ve covered dazzling jewels, let’s move on to rocker-chic. For chunky silver rings that exude style, venture out to 925 (Honduras 4808). The most appealing feature of this location is its emphasis on variety. Here, you can find everything from handmade, artistic pieces, to funky silver rings that cannot be buried amongst the other stunning features of your outfit. As the name suggests, all pieces are crafted with the highest quality 925 silver, and as a bonus, they offer several pieces for men, including rings and chains. My faves are the silver skull rings. Absolutely irresistible.
In addition to the major jewelry stores found around town, there are many independent designers operating out of showrooms that certainly deserve a mention. One of the best spots in town is Sobregustos (info@sobregustos.com), designed by Sandra Monti. While she maintains a trend based on intertwining chains, she also incorporates unique stones in every piece that make each one stand out.
Multi-colored crystals are her specialty, but here you’ll find necklaces, bracelets, rings and earrings in a range of styles. From shiny crystals dangling from gold and bronze earrings to necklaces with chunky, texturized stones, Sandra has a true appreciation for the unique desires of every woman. Not only does she respect the tastes of each individual woman, but she also respects your budget. Her pieces range from $30 to $150 pesos. How can you beat that?
Bonus: if you’re looking for that special piece and just can’t make it out of the house, she’ll come to you with an assortment of her jewels tailored to your preferences. Now that’s what I call customer service.
The Buenos Aires jewelry scene is a true example of bold entrepreneurship. From Manu Lizarralde’s ancient family business to Sandra Monti’s hidden showroom, there are so many ways to enjoy jewelry in this city. Next time you’re out on the town in your favorite party dress, don’t forget to top off your outfit with a little sparkle. With all the options in Buenos Aires, you can’t go wrong.
