If you spend enough time in Buenos Aires you’re bound to get a little tired of ordering the same dishes with the same flavor combinations. Recently LandingPadBA had the pleasure of meeting Larry Rogers, the creator of El Tejano salsas and the man that’s hoping to introduce the picante into the Argentine diet. After tasting the salsas for ourselves we can attest to the quality of El Tejano and wanted to help get the word out about Larry and El Tejano.
Larry has been perfecting his recipes for about 6 months now and has been selling El Tejano mostly to the bartenders and locals at Expat bars around town. After receiving great reactions at the local bars, he’s ready to bring El Tejano to the rest of Buenos Aires.
When we asked Larry why he decided to make salsas his answer went something like this, “I like to drink a lot of beer at bars, and the stuff they serve there is no good. They give you a tiny little ramekin of crappy salsa that you can’t even fit your chip into.” And after watching the prices of beer and salsa steadily rise while the quality declined, he began to reach the end of his rope. “I couldn’t find what I liked, and everything I got was expensive and worth $#%&* all.” So one day, after four years of living in Buenos Aires and tired of eating all the same flavors, Larry flipped a coin (literally) and El Tejano was born.
El Tejano salsa comes in three degrees of spicy:
No.1 Suave y Sabrosa
No.2 Sabrosa y Picante
No.3 Picante Nuclear
People with an affinity for spicy foods know there are two different types of spicy. There’s the unbearable-burn kind of spicy that leaves your taste buds singed and incapable of enjoying the rest of your meal, and then there’s good quality spicy that has real flavor along with that slightly masochistic sensation you crave. El Tejano salsas has mastered the latter of the two. We got to taste No.3 Picante Nuclear and yes it had some good spice to it, but the flavor was paramount.
Straight from Larry’s kitchen to your doorstep, El Tejano salsas have no additives or preservatives and are made with fresh ingredients, hand-picked by Larry himself. Each salsa comes in three sizes- 6 ounces, 12 ounces, and 20 ounces and they sell for $10.00, $15.00 and $20.00 pesos respectively. Not a bad price for a really good salsa.
So far he’s been spreading the news about his product through good ‘ole word of mouth and it has been pretty successful. Some of his customers go through a couple of bottles every week. Larry isn’t interested in breaking into the large market because he doesn’t want to get away from the home-made, fresh quality of his salsa. He told us, “I want give people a good quality product, at a decent price.”
You can contact El Tejano Salsa at his Blog-Spot. Or place your order through email at eltejano3@gmail.com. Larry will personally get in touch with you and deliver the salsa to your door for no additional cost.
