Hi Gerhard. As a vegetarian, I can tell you that locals will not feel that way at all if you tell them that you don't eat meat. Maybe they will ask you why is that, or make a silly joke about it, but they will never feel insulted. You are not trying to say "I don't like the food YOU are offering me" of course. They won't take it like that.
Don't worry, if you are not vegan there is always the chance to get some pizza, pasta or empanadas to grab. Otherwise, ensaladas.

it's really not that big a deal. as an argentinian host i can tell you that, unless you're dealing with assholes, people here won't get offended at all if you explain you're a vegetarian at the time of your invitation so they can get some veggies to grill on the parrilla for you.

It’s unfortunately confirmed to me that my chances at social interaction in Buenos is rather stuffed. I’m a vegetarian. I’d hate inconvenience or insult my hosts, but I could not eat meat for anybody’s sake. What to do?

Haha this article is quite entertaining to read, but come on….this behavior wouldn't be polite or acceptable anywhere in the world, outside a fraternity house and then you would still be considered a dick
