Just 35 minutes outside of Buenos Aires, in the beautiful and incredibly diverse landscape of Parque Provincial Pereyra Iraola: Natural Park (25,000 acres) lies “A La Par” a horse ranch and riding school. With over 25 years of equestrian experience A La Par offers one-on-one or group horseback riding lessons and a nontraditional approach of instruction that, in one lesson, will take your skills far beyond your expectations.

Typically with traditional horseback riding lessons students ride in circles around an instructor in a small and limited space. At this ranch you will ride side by side with your instructor through the many landscapes of Parque Pereyra National Park. You will receive personal direction from a man who we would like to call “The Horse Whisperer”, however, Adrián, the owner and master instructor, is far too humble to accept such a title. Adrián believes that a lesson is 25% your natural skill, 25% his direction, 25% the horse, and 25% your sincere desire to learn. But hey, when after one session of instruction with Adrián, and I’m already cantering (faster than a trot but slower than a gallop) with no hands…Let’s give credit where credit is due.

Adrián’s passion for riding translates directly into his style of teaching. His undying respect for the power and intelligence of his horses and his avid belief in each of his students’ potential is where he places the success of his lessons, and what sets his lessons apart. His teaching style is firm and persistent, while his enthusiasm is reassuring and motivates you to reach your highest potential with each lesson. During the lesson Adrián is accompanied by one or two of his equally dedicated staff members to ensure that each student continues to receive personalized attention and is able to get the most out of their time as possible.

At the end of each two and a half hour lesson Adrián and his staff invite their students back to the ranch to enjoy a nice warm drink along with some delicious pastries. It’s A La Par’s way of thanking you for sharing the day with them and rewarding you for a successful lesson.

There are so many things to do in Buenos Aires and sightseeing in a city with such colorful history is endlessly entertaining, however, stepping outside the city into the natural landscape of Parque Pereyra is truly a breath of fresh air. A day spent at A La Par will leave you with a feeling of accomplishment, joy, and new respect for the art of horseback riding- a tradition and way of life in Argentina for centuries. It’s not just a lesson. It’s an experience.
