No, it doesn’t mean that but wait… less homophobic than whom?

For my part, I have found porteños under 30 or so, including the men, are either completely unimpressed with my sexuality or genuinely curious.

There’s still a lot of street machismo and guys say puto a lot, but I have been pleasantly surprised at the openness of Argentine men.

There also seem to be quite few “bi curious” guys here. Ahem. Some interesting times.

haaa.. great article man. I've been in BA for a years and am now a fan of the man kiss. Seems to keep dudes a little bit more laid back. You definitely don't see as many bar skirmishes here as in the states and I think the man kiss is an influential factor.

The kissing thing is also different in Chaco, north part of Argentina, where people kiss both cheeks when greeting.

Do you think the custom of men kissing each other on the cheek comes from the Italian heritage? My Italian grandfather did the kissing thing in NY.

love the kissing in Argentina – I miss it here in the US

after returning from 5 months in Buenos Aires, I went to my dentist and greeted the nice receptionist, but we didn't kiss – it seemed so awkard to me when in BsAs I kissed the receptionist of my chiropractor on my very first visit – as far as man kissing – get over it

Im from Argentina n i spend lot of time living in USA.. all my time there.. i missed the kissing a LOT! its so warm… so friendly!! i dont like the women handshake!!

ps: all this kissing issues, it changes big time when u go father than Bs As, in little towns men/criollos dont kiss each other.. i think its something from the big cities only! (but thats only my point of view!!) we also considerate rude when some friend arrives n not give us a kiss!! lol

Coming to Buenos Aires in 2 weeks. Thanks for the heads up. I was just in Italy, where guy friends hold hands, so the male to male contact will be no big adjustment for me.
