A breakdown of a few of the most fashionable and highest quality menswear brands in Argentina.

*Updated October 2020*

Not only are the men of Buenos Aires famous for their charisma and good looks, they also tend to dress more stylishly than North Americans. So, stepping up their fashion game is a must for travelers in Argentina, especially for those who want a shot with a stylish porteña. Although BA isn’t known for a ton of quality options for menswear, there are a few spots definitely worth checking out.

Street Style Menswear

By far the most original menswear line in BA, Henky Penky brings high style to the street like no other label in the city. Designer Lautaro draws from his hip hop skater roots and delivers a line filled with options for men of any age who want to bring out their inner cool and explore a brand that’s built for a sporty, comfortable lifestyle. The collection embraces color in touches of violet and coral, but black is also a hallmark of Lautaro’s label. Henky Penky’s pieces are marked by thoughtful details such as zippers that go all the way up to protect you fully from the cold and even back zippers that allow you to layer two different jackets at the same time. HP is haute couture for the average guy wanting to look good without trying too hard.

Classic Style

For a one stop shop where you can pick up anything from a casual sweat suites and swim trunks, to a linen suite, check out El Burgués in Palermo. You won’t find too many showy colors, or over the top patterns here, rather a collection of well-made pieces that won’t go out of style any time soon. Perfect for the fashion forward, yet understated dress who appreciates old-school class.

Formal Attire

For your next formal cocktail or event, you wouldn’t want to enter the party looking anything less than elegant. If you’re searching for the classic suit or a sexy blazer, Etiqueta Negra is the ultimate in high end menswear. Their fabrics are top of the line, as are the prices, but for a special event it’s well worth the expense. All the looks are neutral and classy, so you can’t go wrong. Although it is originally Argentine, this luxurious brand is now international, with stores in both Miami and New York, as well as several locations worldwide. It also boasts a womenswear collection designed by my personal favorite, Paula Cahen D’Anvers, who sold her namesake brand in 1998 and moved on to form an essential part of Etiqueta Negra’s staff. When it comes to quality and style, this label is a standout in BA.

Shoes

Naturally, a gentleman’s outfit would not be complete without a great pair of kicks. The street Gurruchaga in Palermo SoHo offers two shoe stores worth checking out. On the more casual end, Agua Patagona at Gurruchaga 1477 stocks a sizable collection of sneaks in neutral colors such as light brown and black. They’ve also got a rack of more versatile pairs that can be dressed up if necessary. The leather is flexible and durable, so these shoes are made to last.

Just about 10 blocks away from AP at Thames 1855, Terán is well-known for their high quality, detailed leather shoes. A tastemaker on the men’s footwear scene in Buenos Aires, this shop offers some of the sleekest and most fashion forward designs in Buenos Aires. If you’re looking to invest in a high quality hand crafted pair of leather shoes, this isn’t a place you’ll want to swing by. Give yourself at least an hour to peruse the impressive selection and enjoy the 5-star customer service they provide in the shop.
