Information about how to go about travel in Argentina and the coronavirus. General safety tips, when football will return and what cities are ideal to visit.

Argentina implemented a country wide quarantine quite early. On March 20th the country went on lock down with only 128 confirmed cases. The measures have been applauded and as of today (May 28, 2020) Argentina has one of the lowest per capita infection and death rates. The economic effect will certainly be felt in the near future with current levels of inflation, the foreign exchange rates and small business closures rising quickly. The blue dollar exchange rate has made its return much to the delight of budget conscious travelers and the chagrin of locals.

General travel within Argentina

Travel restrictions for citizens have begun to be loosened or lifted outside of the major cities. Cordoba, Bariloche and Buenos Aires remain in a loosened state of quarantine to limit the spread of covid 19. We can expect to see limits on capacity in planes and buses between provinces and likely specific countries in the coming months. Masks will be required on all flights and we’re awaiting news on what may be required pre-flight (fulfilling medical check up, temperature controls at airport, etc).

Presently no commercial flights are permitted in or out of Argentina until September 1st. There is talk of this being extended to December 1st. There have been bimonthly flights planned and or directed by embassies to help repatriate.

Soccer games post coronavirus

Football games were initially played without an audience in late March. As coronavirus advanced globally the A.F.A. suspended all Primera league games until further notice. The Copa America tournament has been postponed until 2021.

We will update the protocols for attending soccer games in Argentina once the league starts up again. Feel free to email us if you would like to be notified once restrictions are being lifted/when the next season is announced. We will be updating our schedule here as well.

Is it safe?
Argentina’s humane approach to the coronavirus has proven successful at greatly reducing the amount of confirmed cases and covid 19 related deaths. The country should be one of the safer destinations for international travel for leisure once global restrictions begin to loosen. However, what countries or nationalities allowed to travel to Argentina is pending. The economy will eventually seek out a much needed boost from tourism. That is for certain. We hope to see you all soon!
