My favorite time of year has arrived. Winter is slowly coming to a close, and it’s almost time to break out our dresses and sandals. The place to start scouting for your summer closet staples: BAFWeek. Three days packed with an array of fashion shows and displays of flashy designer showrooms, BAFWeek is your answer to the quintessential question: What should I wear this summer? The following is my guide to all the best that Buenos Aires Fashion Week has to offer.

Although we all wish we could attend every show at BAFWeek, sadly for manyof us our busy schedules often hold us back. But if there’s one show you don’t want to miss, it’s Marcelo Senra. His winter collection shined with African safari-themed accessories and earthy brown dresses. My bet is he won’t disappoint this time around either.

If you can’t make it to Marcelo Senra, Kostüme will surely satiate your appetite for high fashion. With its utterly androgynous look and Tokyo flavor, nobody beats Kostüme on originality.

For a taste of pure kitsch, Juana de Arco is the place to enjoy wild and colorful prints on shirts, dresses, pajamas, panties, and hats. If you like what you see, you can head to the store on El Salvador and pick up some items for you and your little one. Juana’s children’s line is made for the wild child.

For the man in your life, grab a seat at Hermanos Estebecorena. With classic tailored shirts and leather jackets to die for, dressing your boyfriend in HE is the perfect way to make every other woman jealous.

My advice is not to bother with the shows of big name stores such as Ona Saez, Rapsodia, and Desiderata. These are collections you can see any day. If you’re going out of your way to attend BAFWeek, you might as well enjoy the most exclusive offerings.

In addition to the main shows, several stores and designers will have displays showcasing their upcoming collections. Although many, such as Cul de Sac and Las Penelope, are a disappointment, don’t overlook the rest. For me, the star of the bunch is Huija, arguably my favorite shoe store in Buenos Aires. Forget about the typical leather boot. Huija’s shoes are decked out with everything from buckles to studs to zippers. And
with a sneaker line inspired by Salta, there’s something for everyone.

While you’re browsing the showrooms, take the opportunity to check out Drole. As their Malabia store is frequently closed, this is your chance to browse the new line and find your ideal summer dress.

If it’s lingerie you’re after, stop by Jesus Fernandez. Featuring corsets, lace, and some not-to-be-missed necklaces, this is where it’s at for all your nighttime needs. Bear in mind, as sexy as these garments are, if you have a big bust and are looking for some support, you’re not going to get it here.

And now to the logistics: BAFWeek takes place at La Rural Pabellón Azul (enter at Av Sarmiento 2704) from August 11-13. The schedule of show times is posted at http://www.bafweek.com.

Tickets to BAFWeek shows cost $25 pesos, and can be purchased from 2 pm until 8 pm each day. Bear in mind that as all the events are open to the public, lines will wind around the block and shows fill up fast. Get there as early as you can, and hope for the best. Follow me on Twitter to stay up to date on the event.

Have fun ladies!
