The Argentine sun doesn’t joke around which is why you should consider spending a few days at the beach cooling off during those hot summer months. It may not be in Buenos Aires, but there are plenty of other spots in Argentina where you can get your tan on. Most Argentines will say these beaches are close to Buenos Aires, but they might have a different concept of distances considering Argentina is such a big country. All of these beaches are about a 5-6 hour bus ride and you can book your ticket in advance through Busbud.
1. Mar del Plata
Mar del Plata is one of the most popular beach destinations for local and international tourists, mostly due to its amazing nightlife. The city is filled with chic restaurants, hip bars and clubs. If you don’t feel like laying out on the beach all day, there are many shops, art museums and waterparks to keep you entertained. Due to its popularity, it is incredibly crowded during summertime and the prices are quite high by Argentinian standards.
2. Pinamar
If you are looking to go on a family vacation and believe Mar del Plata lacks the tranquility of a true beach vacation, you should head a bit further north to Pinamar. It is a popular spot among wealthy families who usually rent a house.
3. Villa Geselle
If you want a laidback vacation where you can both relax but still have a fair amount fun at night, Villa Geselle is the place to go. You will find more reasonable prices than in Mar del Plate with still a fair amount of people and clubs.
4.Mar de las Pampas
Mar de las Pampas is the natural, classy beach town and is not as trendy and full of tourists as the above-mentioned beaches. All roads are sand or dirt to ideally turn off most city slickers. A log cabin construction style rules all commercial and residential zones, pine trees are preserved and built around rather than knocked down, lots of families- you get the jist. The general vibe is of money, the houses are expensive to rent generally, but you are paying for your tranquil beach excursion.
5. Mar Azul
Another hidden gem is Mar Azul. This beach is the end of the line before a long stretch of nothing. This area is of a similar natural feel, but less developed. There are lots of houses to rent at a reasonable price, nice open beaches and the big difference is that trucks and 4 wheelers are allowed on the beaches! So if you decide to rent a 4-wheeler, you can go cooking down the beach, slingshot through the dunes, and generally have what fun is to be had on a 4-wheeler.
No matter what beach you end up staying at, you cannot make the wrong decisions. All of these beaches possess their own unique charm and you might end up learning a bit more about Argentine beach culture.
