While it’s true that there is also a Spring football season that runs from roughly August to December, many of these league games end up being somewhat inconsequential. Meanwhile, the most important (read: exciting) games are often the Superliga and Copa closing tournament matches. These games take place at the end of the season, usually from the end of March through May. With the possibility of winning it all, the already passionate fans turn up their energy even more and the result is an absolutely electric atmosphere on game days.

There are some great live music venues that put on tango, jazz, and rock shows all year. However, the fall season happens to be the best time of year to catch some of the most high-profile live music in Buenos Aires.

Teatro Colon

With acoustics that rival the Vienna opera house, the Scala in Milan, the Opera in Paris and the Metropolitan in New York, Teatro Colon is considered one of the best theaters in the world. The stunning 112-year-old building, which is known for its ornate European architecture, is one of the must-see sights in Buenos Aires. English tours are available daily, but to get the full Teatro Colón experience, we recommend seeing a show. After their summer hiatus Teatro Colón’s season begins in early March, and some of the best performances of the year often take place during their fall season. Tickets can be purchased at the box office, or online, and seating in the side sections is often quite affordable. Or if you’re looking to splurge, seats in the front and center will likely lead to one of the most impressive theater experiences of your life.

Lollapalooza Argentina

Got your fill of classical music at Teatro Colón and on the hunt for a music experience on the other end of the spectrum? Make sure to check out Lollapalooza Argentina. This annual three-day festival takes place in the Buenos Aires suburb San Isidro at the end of March. Complete with 5 stages and over 100 musical acts, this festival draws some of the biggest names in music every year, along with a host of talented local and international new-comers. Whether you’re a fan of rock, jazz, hip hop, pop, reggaeton or electronic, the diverse range of acts will surely include something for you.

After a few-hour bus ride you can be enjoying an asado in the countryside or learning how to play polo. There are a lot of estancias within a few hours of Buenos Aires to choose from. Estancia Ombu, one of the best estancias in San Antonio de Areco, puts on a great country day complete with horseback riding, a traditional barbecue lunch, pool and plenty of space to explore. You’re guaranteed to leave relaxed and with a new appreciation of the Argentine countryside.

What are the positives and negatives of Visiting Buenos Aires in the fall?

One of the main benefits of visiting Buenos Aires in the fall is that the city is less crowded with tourists. Buenos Aires is a densely populated city that becomes especially enjoyable when you don’t have to vie for a spot to take a picture of the Casa Rosada. Beginning in March, there are noticeably less visitors every month until the city goes into a collective hibernation in late June. With less visitors, the streets are less congested, it’s easier to make restaurant reservations, and activities and tours don’t need to be planned as far out in advance. On the other hand, while fall weather is generally comfortable, it can also be unpredictable. Beginning in April, the weather can vary greatly from day to day ranging from 75°F and sunny to 55°F and rainy. Make sure to pack accordingly.
