Top 5 Artesanal Beers in Argentina

Argentines love beer. This is not a secret. Beer is one of the most popular alcoholic beverages in country, only second to red wine. Fortunately the years have brought a bit of know-how and sophistication to the brewing industry in Argentina. Long gone are the days when Quilmes was one of the only 3 selections to be found.

Today, artisanal beers are everywhere. From major supermarkets, gourmet shops to Irish pubs and specialty stores. Below are our Top 5 Artisanal Argentine beers.

Cerveza Artesanal Antares

Antares is by far the most successful brand of artisanal beer in Argentina. Currently they have almost a dozen franchise pubs around the country, starting by their charter pub in Mar del Plata. Antares beer can also be found in other known pubs and gourmet markets. The most convenient Antares locations in Buenos Aires are either at Armenia 1447 in Palermo Soho or at the intersection of Arevalo y Baez in Las Canitas.

Buller Brewing Company

Micro-brewery and gastro pub located in Recoleta right across from the entrance to the cemetery, Buller was one of the first to hit the scene in a big way. They definitely did the most in restoring beer´s long lost coolness factor in BA. Today, after over a decade in the business, they are a local classic for artisanal beer.

Cervecería Barba Roja

This brand can be found in Buenos Aires in gourmet shops and quality supermarkets. They currently have a brewery and beer amusement park in Escobar, only 50 km from downtown Bs. As. as well as a small gourmet shop in the neighborhood of Devoto. If you want to make your way to the brewery take the bus from Plaza Italia (near the Buenos Aires bike rental station) to Escobar and grab a remis.

Bar El Federal

Founded in 1864, El Federal has been making artisanal beer longer than anyone else on our list. Located in the traditional neighborhood of Monserrat, El Federal is a classic worth visiting, not only for the beer, but for their classic Porteño ambiance. Swing by their joint at Carlos Calvo 599.

Cerveza Kraken

Cervezas Kraken makes an American Pale Ale that can be found in several gourmet shops and in select pubs. Still hard to find, but definitely worth a taste as they hold true to a classic, delicious recipe.
